As use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter has expanded, they have created new channels for sharing information that can also be used by law enforcement to investigate crimes and identify suspects. This course provides detectives, school resource officers, and anyone involved in conducting investigations involving social networking sites with the basic information and tools to accomplish investigations more efficiently. This trainging session will focus on three specific areas:

Navigation
– The user interface of popular social networking sites
– Built-in search functions
– Properly identifying user profiles

Preservation
– Legal process, including warrant language
– Third party tools to document posts
– Built-in user tools for downloading profiles

Presentation
– Viewing and navigating downloaded profiles
– Validating preserved data

 

During the webinar, instruction will be given on how to download a copy of the instructor’s PowerPoint as well as additional resource materials pertaining to the topic.
